Selling Your Cards Elsewhere

New bigger better craft website www.CraftsbyCarolyn.co.uk - more to see.

There are customers out there you just need to track them down. If you don't fancy trawling around shops and just want to sell some cards locally then here are a few ideas.

Groups

Anywhere that a group of people are gathered, there are customers!!

The local library often keeps lists of groups in the area and when they meet. In fact at one time I used to sell my cards at the library, but they have changed their policy and do not sell any products now.

I have attended toddler groups and other 'chat ins' where Mums go to have a chat and the toddlers play on the toys provided. These sort of groups are always looking for ways to boost their funds, so why not offer to go along for an hour say once a month and sell your cards - offering them a percentage on those you sell.

When my son used to go to nursery I used to drop a box of cards off with him in the morning and pick them up at the end of the day. I have also left a box in the staff room at the school and again made a donation to funds. If you do this kind of thing I would recommend popping in a piece of paper and pen in the box, if anyone did not pay they can write it down, as often people do not have enough money or even the right change.

My next door neighbour has a box with her and sells them to all her work colleagues, she never actually pays for her cards. In fact she did so well at her last office that I felt I should give her a present as sale woman of the year!!

I used to go to the Sugarcraft club and take my cards, and I normally have some in the boot of the car - just in case!!

WI Market
I joined the WI market, which is a separate 'arm' of the WI - you do not have to be a member of the WI. Check out www.wimarkets.co.uk for your local market. At ours it really is a market stall, many are in village halls and shops. We have a rota for 'manning' the stall and it would depend on the size of membership on how often it would be. You normally pay 10% commission which covers rent insurance etc. In Bedfordshire all the WI Markets attend some big events such as the 3 day garden show at Wrest Park (a local English Heritage Stately Home) which is attended by thousands. The commission is higher at these events.

Craft Party
What about having a party at your home (or someone elses!), maybe team up with a crafty friend and offer a wide range of items. Invite all your neighbours and their friends Get in some nibbles and some tea and coffee or even some wine and if you don't sell anything you would have had some fun!! I did one once utilising every flat surface - I even put a table cloth over the ironing board.

Maybe team up with someone who works in the 'party' trade such as Tupperware, or Virgin make up - there are loads out there.

Send Christmas Cards to your Neighbours
Try this and make sure you put your name on the back, you just never know where it will lead!
